Holiday Village Illness – Coral/Red Sea - Cryptosporidium Sickness Outbreak!

Simpson Millar Solicitors continue to be instructed by holidaymakers returning from Egypt with serious stomach illnesses caused by the waterborne parasite, Cryptosporidium. This follows a succession of illness outbreaks at the Red Sea Holiday Village in 2008 and 2009.

The symptoms include excruciating stomach cramps – violent diarrhoea – fever and projectile vomiting!

Simon Lomax, Holiday Illness Claims Manager, says:

"Our Holiday Illness Claims team is currently instructed to claim compensation by nearly 100 holidaymakers who were struck down by gastric illness and/or ear infections in 2010. Many of these claims include holidaymakers who have suffered from acute infections caused by SalmonellaE coliShigella and the holiday bug associated with dirty swimming pools, Cryptosporidium!"

"Complaints of gastric illness at the Red Sea Holiday Village appear to be relentless with an ever increasing number of guests returning at the end of the summer 2010 season with Cryptosporidium."

"I appreciate that Egyptian health and safety standards may be considered lower than in the UK, however the Red Sea Holiday Village Egypt is exclusive to First Choice’s UK guests – consequently First Choice should be capable of enforcing British hygiene standards in a hotel they control?"

"Surprisingly First Choice’s Holiday’s representatives continue to avoid dealing with hygiene issues at the Red Sea Holiday Village Egypt preferring to blame illness outbreaks on a change in climate – heat – over indulgence – excess alcohol and/or a mysterious virus."

"At the same time holidaymakers are being directed to the local pharmacy where they are being given antibiotics such as Antinal and Steptoquin. These antibiotics are ineffective against viral infections and are used to treat illnesses caused by bacteria."

"Tour operators should not be subjecting travellers on package holidays to infectious diseases whether caused by Salmonella - E-coli – Cryptosporidium - Campylobacter or indeed any bacterial or parasitic holiday infection. Many of our clients claim that they are still suffering as a result of falling ill at the Red Sea Holiday Village in Sharm el Sheikh Egypt."

"First Choice’s holidaymakers are also complaining about the food served at the Red Sea Holiday Village. Hygienic food preparation is vitally important otherwise food poisoning bacteria will spread quickly into the swimming pools as a consequence of faecal accidents and outbreaks of illness will continue."

Simon continues to say: "Holidaymakers who return home ill from the Red Sea Holiday Village should not return to work immediately especially if they handle food. They should contact their GP to eliminate the possibility that they are suffering from/or carrying bacteria or a parasitic illness. This action is particularly important for those who work with the elderly, children or anyone with a suppressed immune system."
