Kalithea Horizon Illness Outbreak – Salmonella Reported
**Latest update** on the illness outbreak at the Kalithea Horizon Royal Hotel in Rhodes that affected holiday makers during August 2010.
After recent news releases concerning an outbreak of illness at the Kalithea Horizon Royal Hotel resort in Rhodes Simpson Millar LLP’s Holiday Claims Solicitors have been informed of guests of the hotel being diagnosed with salmonella – a bacterial illness usually associated with food poisoning.
Simpson Millar has been instructed by more than 30 holidaymakers caught up in the outbreak and are speaking to many others.
Holiday makers were struck by a sickness bug with many suffering symptoms of projectile vomiting – violent bouts of diarrhoea and agonising stomach cramps.
Nick Harris, Head of Holiday Travel Law at Simpson Millar said:
“The confirmation of salmonella is something I had been anticipating. The reports I had been hearing indicated a series of hygiene failings which cumulatively lead me to believe it was only a matter of time before a bacterial pathogen was isolated."
"There have been numerous accounts of raw sewage smells in close proximity to the hotel with swarms of flies contaminating food exposed for human consumption. Coupled with problems that occurred with water supplies it is not surprising guests fell ill."
"There were other clues with guests being treated by the hotel’s doctor with antibiotics which typically are used to treat bacterial infections having little or no effect in treating viral infections.”
"This is 2nd incident in Rhodes that Simpson Millar LLP has been involved with recently."
The firm’s Holiday Claims Team were contacted by more than 70 holiday makers struck ill at the newly opened Holiday Village resort in Kolymbia during the middle of July 2010.
