Our Holiday Illness Team are getting reports from holidaymakers complaining of a largescale illness and sickness outbreak affecting the Movenpick Resort Taba Hotel in Egypt.

Holidaymakers are describing horrific experiences with high numbers of the hotel’s guests falling ill to a sickness bug at the hotel suffering from symptoms ranging from debilitating stomach cramps and violent uncontrollable diarrhoea with reports of some guests being hospitalised and others so ill they were hallucinating.

British tourists returning from the Movenpick in Taba are reporting dozens of sick guests being carried into the clinic at the hotel – others fainting – some hallucinating – many being so violently ill they are soiling themselves on the spot. – others being admitted to hospital.

Nick Harris, Head of Holiday Law at Simpson Millar, is calling to holidaymakers affected to contact him and said:

"The reports we are hearing suggest a very serious problem at the Movenpick Hotel involving 100’s of UK holidaymakers".

"The hotel has said that the illness outbreak has been caused by a norovirus bug – an “airborne bug” - but in my experience the symptoms being reported are certainly not consistent with a norovirus but more likely a bacterial infection – such as salmonella – e-coli or campylobacter."

"Again I am deeply concerned that people don’t appear to getting appropriate advice about medical treatment. As I am finding more and more often holiday makers who become ill are being fobbed off with excuses such as 'it is the heat' – 'it’s the oils used to cook the food' – 'its an airborne virus' – 'its over indulgence' – This is unacceptable – people should be advised properly."

"I also am being told that most people who have been ill at the Movenpick and sought treatment have been prescribed Antinal. This medicine is used to treat bacterial infections!"

"Apparently the Doctor at the Hotel was sacked for profiteering from the number of British guests needing treatment!"

"What is concerning to me is that the reports being made by holidaymakers point to possible food poisoning with food being described as ‘recycled’ and most complaining that food was at best served at lukewarm or cold. Other complaints included dirty milk jugs and flies contaminating food.”

The hotel operates as an all-inclusive hotel and the number of people falling victim to sickness is suggestive of something quite sinister."

"If as early indications suggest holidaymakers at the Movenpick are becoming ill due to food poisoning because of failings in food hygiene standards then this is unacceptable and I will be seeking substantial compensation for those affected."

"Food poisoning such as salmonella or cryptosporidium is avoidable if reasonable care is taken preparing food."
