Package holidays and flights cancelled as Holidays 4U goes bust

More holidaymakers will be suffering disappointment over cancelled package holiday plans this summer, following news that UK holiday company Holidays 4U has gone into administration.

The company specialises in package holidays to Turkey and the news means that thousands of holidaymakers who have paid for their holiday through the company will be unable to take their break as planned.

Holidaymakers already on holiday will have to wait for the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to make plans for their return to the UK.

Customers of Holidays 4U are protected by the CAA’s ATOL (Air Travel Organisers’ Licensing) scheme. Around 50,000 customers are thought to be affected by the Holidays 4U crash – around 12,000 of these are currently on holiday. The company also traded as Aegean Flights.com.

Customers who have not already been on the holiday they booked or who have booked a flight should be able to claim a full refund through the CAA.

All flights have already been cancelled – including the 9pm Manchester to Dalaman flight due out yesterday (03/08/11), the day it was announced the company had ceased trading. It is estimated around 20,000 people who have booked flights through the company will now face the disappointment of having their holiday cancelled and will have to source other flights if possible.

It is thought many families who had booked holidays during the school summer break will be affected.

Customers already on holiday will be able to stay on and the CAA will make arrangements to fly them home on the planned date of their return.

The CAA posted a statement on its website:

"The CAA will ensure that all Holidays 4U customers due to fly home in the coming weeks are able to do so as planned; they should therefore arrive at the airport in time to check-in for their flights home as normal. If there are any flight changes, information will be placed on the ATOL website."

All bookings with the firm have been cancelled and other travel websites are already targeting online ads at holidaymakers disappointed that their Holidays4U break has been cancelled.

The company’s administrators PriceWaterhouseCooper issued a statement blaming the downturn in the economy and impact on the travel market in 2010 and 2011 for the collapse of Holidays 4U.
