Holiday illness nightmare for guests at Ephesus Princess in Kusadasi

Holidaymakers posting on Tripadvisor have painted a horrific picture of guests vomiting and appalling standards of hygiene at the 4-star Ephesus Princess in the popular Turkish resort of Kusadasi.

The all-inclusive Ephesus Princess is used by Thomas Cook – but guests staying in September and posting reviews on Tripadvisor made several complaints. They said that fridges in villa rooms did not work properly, areas of the hotel left were left “filthy” and covered in vomit and human waste. They noted multiple outbreaks of abdominal illness among guests, including symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting.

One guest who had visited the hotel to celebrate her birthday wrote:

“Not only is this not a 4* hotel, it was completely filthy, which resulted in most of our party becoming extremely unwell with abdominal pains and sickness, consequently one member of my party was hospitalised.”

The symptoms continued after she returned home. The party also included a baby under two and the Ephesus Princess had been chosen and booked through Thomas Cook as a “clean, hygienic place”. However, the holidaymakers in this party claim to have suffered terrible symptoms of gastroenteritis, which ruined their holiday.

Some reviews on Tripadvisor do praise the hotel, but all it takes is one lapse in food hygiene to cause an outbreak of bacterial gastroenteritis, including serious infections such as Salmonella, Campylobacter and E.coli.

Dirty public areas and poorly cleaned rooms will help spread any infections among guests, especially those in close contact with each other. One of the party posting on Tripadvisor had a room which smelled of sewage and another guest allegedly vomited onto their balcony at night.

The Tripadvisor review also alleges there was vomit round the pool at the Ephesus Princess – and no bleach or hand sanitizers were saw around the hotel.

The dining room was also allegedly overcrowded, with dirty tables and children’s high chairs left uncleaned – and toilets in the restaurant were too few and left soiled by guests.

The reviewer says that staff did not react and did not send cleaners out when poor hygiene or vomiting was reported. Other guests allegedly saw the same, and fell ill with severe symptoms of holiday food poisoning at the Ephesus Princess.

Any incidences of holiday illness or poor hygiene at a holiday hotel should be reported immediately to your holiday rep and the hotel manager.
