Food Poisoning Outbreak at the El Dorado Suite

Enquires are flooding in from holidaymakers returning from the 5 Star resort complaining of diarrhoea, vomiting, nausea, stomach cramps, loss of appetite and fever. These are all common symptoms of food poisoning.

The El Dorado Seaside Suite by Karisma, Riviera Maya, Mexico is an all-inclusive hotel promoted by Thomson and First Choice Holidays. According to the First Choice brochure online the hotel is described as an "award-winner" and it notes "Food is a real talking point, too. There are 7 à la carte restaurants - including Mexican and Latin fusion venues - and a beachside barbecue place. Plus, there are 8 bars for post-dinner cocktails."

A Big Talking Point

So is the food a talking point for the wrong reasons? Many holidaymakers are airing negative opinions via holiday review site, Tripadvisor.

One reviewer on Tripadvisor reported their illness to the hotel manager was told that, "it was due to us having busy jobs and finally being able to relax."

It is concerning to note that when holidaymakers have reported their food poisoning symptoms to the Thomson and First Choice representatives at the hotel they denied that it was anything to do with the food. Furthermore, from the enquiries we have received, the tour operator has suggested that holidaymakers are not being used to the hot climate or that they have over-indulged.

What investigations have been conducted at the hotel into this potential food poisoning outbreak? What medical qualifications do the tour operators resort representatives and hotelier hold?
