New Aviation Ombudsman to Handle Flight Delays

Was your flight late? Are you thinking of making a baggage claim? Then there's good news for you. A new aviation watchdog will rule on complaints like this and more to compensate passengers who have received poor service from their flight providers.

Flight Delays complaints

New Rulings to be Binding

The new ruling body will cover the following:

  • Delayed flights
  • Cancelled flights
  • Damage or loss to luggage
  • Poor service from airline staff
  • Access problems faced by passengers with a disability

Unlike rulings now handled by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), rulings by the new body will be binding upon all airlines flying into and outside of the UK. Due to the non-binding nature of the current rulings, disgruntled passengers are having to resort to a civil case through the courts. This can become a major inconvenience for not a lot of money back. Some people have also experienced instances where the CAA has made a ruling but the airline has not paid any compensation to the consumer.

No Need to go to Court

Signing up for the new watchdog will be voluntary to begin with but the government will be asked to legislate for compulsory membership if a majority of the airlines do not sign up.

Hand over from the current CAA will happen in September and we would encourage anyone who has a claim for baggage or flight delays to approach them for help. This service in particular has been set up so passengers can bypass the courts and get a direct solution that won't cost them a penny but is still effective.
