Newspaper and television reports indicated numerous cases of salmonella, cryptosporidium and campylobacter – mainly caused by food poisoning and contaminated water.

Following the fifth sickness outbreak at the Holiday Village in five years a spokeswoman for First Choice said: "We closely monitor all the hotels which we operate to ensure that the strictest health, safety, hygiene and comfort levels are maintained." – Reported September 2009.
