Tropicana Club Azure Holiday Illness Compensation Success


Simpson Millar’s Claims Team are pleased to announce that the UK’s largest tour operator, Thomson, has settled compensation claims for over 30 travellers whose holidays at the Tropicana Club Azure in Egypt were affected by illness in 2010.

"We currently represent a large number of holidaymakers who suffered sickness including dysentery and Salmonella Poisoning split between two of the UK’s largest tour operators, Thomson and Thomas Cook Tour Operations.

"Both tour operators initially denied liability but following further investigations Thomson’s admitted that the food served at the Tropicana Club Azure was not of the required standard and responsibly the tour company decided to compensate its customers."

"Thomas Cook however is adamant that its customers do not warrant compensation payments despite the number of illness complaints received from guests staying at the Tropicana Club Azure."

"Thomas Cook’s reluctance to compensate its customer is strange when so many holidaymakers were struck by stomach complaints including Salmonella Poisoning and Dysentery (Shigella)."

"Victims of Shigella Sonnei (dysentery) and Salmonella poisoning suffer from profuse diarrhoea – painful abdominal cramps – vomiting – fever – and headaches, and the last thing Thomas Cook’s customers want is a protracted battle for compensation."

Simon continues to say:

"I can only assume that Thomson’s due diligence checks, auditing procedures, and investigations clearly identified hygiene issues which were not been picked up by Thomas Cook, a discrepancy which raises questions about health and safety procedures!"

"Both tour operators send thousands of people on holiday every year and it is inevitable that mistakes happen. However, it is often the way that tour operators handle those complaints that determines whether holidaymakers will use their services again."
