Boudicca cruise ship hit by gastro illness again

More than 30 holidaymakers on board Fred Olsen’s cruise ship Boudicca are still in isolation after an outbreak of gastroenteritis.

Boudicca left Greenock in Scotland on 7 May on a 13-day cruise to the Canary Islands and was due to dock in Madeira on Tuesday (15/05/12).

Fred Olsen Cruise Lines says no ports of call will be missed – a strict hygiene regime has been imposed on board the ship, which is carrying more than 1,000 people, including 828 holidaymakers.

A spokeswoman for Fred Olsen Cruise Lines said:

"The virus is very easily spread by contact with surfaces, and guests are regularly reminded of the importance of meticulous hygiene. Antibacterial gels are used upon boarding the ship and entering any area serving food."

The Boudicca was previously affected by outbreaks of stomach illness in 2009 and 2010.

Some passengers have previously launched legal action for compensation after becoming ill while on board the Boudicca.
