Simpson Millar advise BBC Watchdog on Red Sea Holiday Village Illness Outbreak in Egypt

Don’t miss Simpson Millar’s Head of Travel Law, Nick Harris on tonight’s episode of Watchdog at 8pm on BBC1.

Nick will be advising on the rights of holidaymakers who fall ill on package holidays abroad – and dealing with complaints from holidaymakers who have fallen ill while staying at the Red Sea Holiday Village and the Coral Sea Holiday Village in Egypt.

The hotel is used by First Choice holidays and guests staying at the Red Sea Holiday Village have alleged that hygiene standards at the hotel are “appalling”.

Guests have suffered from sickness while staying at the hotel, which has its own clinic on site.

Some guests have alleged the clinic prescribed medications banned in the UK to treat food poisoning symptoms – while others ended up in hospital, after needing intravenous antibiotics and rehydration therapy for food poisoning symptoms they contracted while staying at the hotel.

Posts on online travel forums report that staff at the clinic do not wash their hands between seeing patients – and do not change disposable covers on examination tables between patients.

Holidaymakers say that hot food in the dining room at the Red Sea Holiday Village is served lukewarm – and there is also poor hygiene among staff in the dining room, who do not wash their hands or clean tables properly between different groups of diners.

There are also reports online that vomit and human excrement are found in the hotel swimming pool – and that swimming pool water is not subjected to daily testing by hotel staff. Water containing raw sewage is also allegedly being used to water the hotel gardens.

One guest posting on a travel forum alleged that hotel management at the Red Sea Holiday Village blamed the “dirty habits” of guests for the outbreaks of sickness.

If you have suffered an illness at the Red Sea Holiday Village then don't hesitate to contact Nick Harris on 0808 145 1353.

Simpson Millar’s Head of Travel Law Nick Harris is scheduled to appear on Watchdog at 8pm on BBC1 tonight.
