Holiday Sickness

Beware of Welfare Calls from Thomas Cook!

Owing to the size of the problem, Thomas Cook have been making “welfare calls” upon holidaymakers returning to the UK from the Sentido.

If you do receive a “Welfare call” from someone in Thomas Cook’s “Welfare Team”, we would advise you to be wary as the person you are speaking to on the other end may, in fact, be someone in the Thomas Cook Customer Legal Department - and what you say to them could potentially be harmful to your claim at a later date!

In the event that you do receive a call from Thomas Cook about your illness, we would advise you to ask for details of the position and department in which that person works, as well as a direct telephone number. We would suggest that you contact us for a free telephone consultation whereby we can give legal advice, whether you want to instruct us or not.

One of our Travel Lawyers will advise you what to say and what not to say and will also advise you about the potential value of your claim.

Signs of Traveller's Diarrhoea at Sentido Perissia Hotel

Currently we do not know what the cause of the illness was although our clients have shown classic symptoms of “Traveller’s Diarrhoea”.

Traveller’s diarrhoea can be caused by bugs such as E. Coli 157 or Salmonella, which are types of food poisoning, and Cryptosporidium, which is usually associated with poorly maintained and swimming pools.

It is usually the case that such germs can be prevented if the hotel staff adopts sensible hygiene procedures to prevent cross contamination of food.

A claim can be made against Thomas Cook for potential Traveller’s Diarrhoea at the Sentido Perissia because the Package Travel Regulations makes the UK tour operator responsible for the negligence of their suppliers. Based on the reports from our clients it seems that the hotel could have been doing more to prevent the spread of illness.
