Hotel Barcelo Solymar Illness Complaints

A holidaymaker visiting one of Cuba’s most popular holiday destinations has slated the experience as being ‘terrible from start to finish’ and lays the blame firmly with one of the resort’s top hotels.

The guest, who posted the damning report on web review site TripAdvisor, listed a catalogue of failings with the Hotel Barcelo Solymar in Varadero including poor food. And, the holiday was made worse by the fact that that holidaymaker got ‘very ill’ during their stay.

Holiday Compensation

The review claims that food was terrible, rooms filthy and the grounds of the hotel were in ‘complete disrepair’.

The guest goes on to conclude that there was an absence of quality in the hotel and claims they overpaid for their stay there.

Hotel Barcelo Solymar is a hotel catering for families situated in one of the many resorts of Cuba frequented by holidaymakers. It boasts of beautiful sandy beaches and a privileged setting right on the seafront.

But the hotel has come under scrutiny following several critical reviews on the TripAdvisor website.

Complaints include rooms smelling of mould, uncomfortable beds and the ‘terrible’ food.

And in one particular review the holidaymaker told of an elevator where vomit was still evident from an incident days earlier.

The reviewer placed his damning report in January this year.

Holiday Compensation

The General Manager of the hotel responded to the criticisms thanking the holidaymaker concerned for their comments which will be taken on board.

The manager said: “I apologize for the inconvenience during your stay. We were sorry to hear about your comments about the food and I would like to explain that we are improving the quality and the variety in our restaurant.

“The hotel staff are taking care of good practice for the preparation of products for customers. I can assure you that these measures have been taken.

“I can guarantee that our only goal is to ensure the satisfaction of our customers and we continue to work so that incidents do not recur.”

Holidaymakers are advised to contact their holiday representative if unhappy with the condition of their accommodation, and get in touch with us once back in the UK to see if they are eligible for any compensation.
